CBT Healing Arts Hypnosis FAQ: Questions About How Hypnotherapy Works

If I finally stop an old habit using hypnosis, will I just end up with another bad habit?

No. There is no need to substitute one bad habit for another undesirable habit. When you choose to stop or change a habit there is no need to begin another habit. However, sometimes a client has an idea or belief that letting go of an old habit, say like smoking, will lead to eating more, this doesn’t need to be the result. Skilled hypnotists know ways to avoid slipping into this trap.

Are all your sessions the same? I understand some hypnotherapists work from scripts and the sessions are almost always the same. Is this how you work?

No. My sessions are individualized. I know some hypnotists use scripts and the suggestions are more generalized, to me that’s like using a shotgun approach. I see each person as unique and my hypnosis sessions are based entirely on you. I utilize my knowledge and skills to assist you in achieving your goals. See my bio

What makes your sessions successful?

I see you able to achieve your goal. I see and experience myself celebrating your success. A wise person once said, “You get what you expect”. I expect you to recognize the goal we’re aiming to claim. One of my goals is to specifically note what "flips your switch" and triggers you to repeat a behavior you wish to change. We look at the present behavior. I listen to you, and get a feeling for how exactly you would like the undesirable behavior to be different. Understanding your goal, assists me in helping you release the old behavior.

What makes your hypnosis sessions different from others?

I begin my sessions with the belief that you already possess the information and resources needed to manifest the changes you desire. Employing my knowledge and training, I assist you in engaging your most inner resourcefulness to accomplish your goal. Although I am dedicated to assisting you in achieving your goal, I know I cannot want your goal more than you. Through years of experience, I’ve learned it never works for the therapist to desire the goal more than the client. However, I assure you my dedication combined with your own true commitment to change, makes your goal easily attainable.

What do you mean I am part of the equation?

Working together with you, I enlist your most resourceful behavior(s) to manifest your goal. It's your view of the world, your vision of the changes you desire to manifest that I employ. I work using images and words that resonate with your personal view of the world. I incorporate into your session your positive feelings, thoughts, insights. Drawing from your life experiences, your dreams, reflecting and mirroring your images of change, based on your sense of touch, sight, sound, taste, or smell, I facilitate manifesting the change(s) you desire.

Why does it take so long?

I’ve learned that a thorough intake process provides much needed information which can assist me in helping you reach your goal more readily. Therefore it’s worth the time spent to learn as much as I can to help you.

Is the long intake time really worth it?

The quicker and more easily you achieve your goal, the more likely you are to tell others who need assistance about my work. Plus, if you need help in the future you know my goal is for you to reach your goal as quickly as possible, and you will return when you need assistance in the future. I’ve had clients who have told me we’ve achieved more in a short while with hypnosis than they have over years of more traditional therapy. And they return from time to time as the need arises.

How many sessions will it take?

The answer is: It depends, both on the issue and on you. Some issues may take longer than others. With each successive session I continue to modify the session to meet your specific criteria. By using hypnosis and anchoring change(s), the resources you need steadily become more easily accessible to you. If you discover forgotten triggers, I work with that information, modify the session accordingly. Ultimately I assist you in integrating and enhancing the positive changes that embody success in your daily life.

Can anyone just make an appointment?

Yes, issues like phobias, depression, anger management, insomnia, chronic pain, cancer, male inorganic impotence and grief are better suited for hypnosis private sessions. For treatment with all of these sessions, except for grief, I strongly suggest, or may require, a note from your physician or counselor.

I’ve heard the phrase, “working together as part of a team”, with some health care providers. What is your opinion of this?

I believe it is important to have your health care team working together for your greatest good. I have found that when health care providers are aware of all therapies an individual is participating in it facilitates the healing process, especially when dialogue is encouraged. Health care providers like to know that progress is being made when patients seek assistance outside traditional modalities. It also helps the more traditionally minded health care providers understand that non-traditional holistic therapies can and do benefit their patients.

I require 48 hour notice of cancellation. A cancellation in less than 48 hours, will result in a 50% fee charge. The remainder of the 50% will be added to your next appointment. Since I do not double book appointments, and this time has been reserved for you, this fee acts as a moderate compensation for my time which was dedicated to you.
